Vaastu Tips for house design
Vaastu Shastra is an ancient Indian system of architecture and design that is said to promote prosperity, health, and happiness in the home. Some common Vaastu tips for designing a house include:
- Orienting the main entrance of the house to the north, east, or northeast, as these directions are said to be auspicious for the entrance.
- Placing the main living areas, such as the living room and bedrooms, in the northwest or west part of the house, as these directions are said to be good for family life.
- Avoiding placing the kitchen in the southeast part of the house, as this is said to be inauspicious for health and well-being.
- Placing the bathroom and toilet in the north, east, or northwest part of the house.
- Making sure that the house has proper ventilation and natural light, and that the rooms are well-proportioned and not overly cramped.
- Creating a balance between the five elements of nature – earth, water, fire, air, and space – within the house. This can be achieved by using colors, shapes, and materials in the design of the house that correspond to each element.
- Placing the master bedroom in the southwest part of the house, as this is said to be a good location for the head of the household.
- Placing the study or work area in the northwest part of the house, as this is said to be a good location for intellectual pursuits.
- Avoiding placing the main entrance of the house directly in line with the rear entrance, as this is said to cause conflict and disharmony within the household.
- Properly aligning the house and its rooms with the cardinal directions to ensure that the flow of energy is smooth and balanced.
- Incorporating symbols and imagery associated with wealth, success, and prosperity into the design of the house, such as an image of the elephant or a swastika.
- Positioning the bed in the bedroom in such a way that the person sleeping can see the door but the bed is not directly in line with the door.
- Avoiding any kind of obstruction in the front of the main door. A clear pathway to the main door is said to bring in positive energy and good luck.
- Avoid having any kind of slope or inclined surface towards the main entrance as it is believed to bring financial instability.
- Placing a small water body or fountain in the Northeast direction of the house, which is said to bring prosperity and abundance.
- Building the house with natural and eco-friendly materials like mud, clay, bamboo and thatch as they are considered auspicious and in harmony with nature.
- Avoiding sharp and angular shapes in the design of the house, instead preferring rounded or curved shapes, as they are believed to promote harmony and balance.
It’s important to note that there may be different interpretations of the principles of Vaastu Shastra, and not everyone may agree on the best way to apply these guidelines to a specific house design. Ultimately, the purpose of Vaastu Shastra is to create a harmonious and well-balanced living space, so it’s important to use common sense and take into account the specific needs and preferences of the people who will be living in the house.
